Within reading the first page I could see the relationship that this article had with the Brave New World. The main idea is basically that innovations in each generation and can shape or change a society. In the chapter in talks about a technopoly, which is basically a society that is based around society. This culture seeks its authorisation in technology, finds its satisfactions in technology, and takes its orders from technology. In the Novel, technopoly is not as inefficient as we see it, because in the novel everything is based off of pleasure and efficiency. Postman explains that a technocracy ”is, a society only loosely controlled by social custom and religious tradition and driven by the impulse to invent- an “unseen hand” will eliminate the incompetent and reward those who produce cheaply and well the goods tat people want.” Basically what this quote is saying is that as long as the workers do what hey are supposed to and keep up, they can do whatever they want and have all the pleasure they desire.
Kurzweil in a Brave New World believes when all machines were built that they would eventually take over. Instead the humans being the masters of the tools, technology would be the master of the human race. Now Neil Postman on the other hand looks at things in just a little bit different way, he thinks that tools will never be the masters, just always the tool. But it still is conveincing how Kurzweil can even come up with a date when this overthrow will happen.
